We are all worshiping in slightly different ways during this unusual time. Some of you are still making sure you have donuts and coffee on Sunday morning Many of you worship in your PJ’s. I talked to one couple that still gets up early and puts on their “Sunday clothes” for worship. It just helps them get ready for worship. Others of you sleep in (or your kids do) and you worship later in the day than usual. Some of you make sure the house is quiet for worship. Others have family members coming and going all through the worship time. I guess the question is not what everyone else is doing, but what is helping you? What helps you get your spirit ready for worship? What helps you get into worship? Whether you are alone or with a big family, special rituals each week can be very helpful.
This weekend we will start a new worship series we are calling, Solid Ground in Uncertain Times. We will be thinking about how our ancestors got through uncertain times. What gave them strength, courage and hope? What can we learn from their lives as we live through this time of uncertainty?
Old Testament scholar Dr. Walter Brueggemann talks about the recurring themes in the Bible of Orientation, Disorientation and then Reorientation. What helps us move from Disorientation to Reorientation?
We will celebrate Holy Communion this weekend. If you want to be really prepared for worship, these are some supplies you might gather up around your house before worship.
· Communion Bread and juice
(or, water and almost any kind of food can work)
· Paper and something to draw with for kids at prayer time.
· Paper and pen for adults to reflect or journal.
We will have the Zoom fellowship time around 10:15 again this week. For those who are new or relatively new to our congregation, we invite you to go to the church webpage www.normalfirst.org and click on the Newcomers Fellowship Link there. Erika Cheeseman and I look forward to visiting with you in that “room.”
Be well. Stay Connected. Keep growing in faith.
