Music Ministries at Normal First United Methodist Church is an intergenerational organization, ranging from grade school through adult, who desire to make a deep, long lasting connection with each other and the congregation through music.

We welcome everyone, including gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, and intersex individuals as well as people of different racial and ethnic backgrounds. We believe that everyone should experience a safe and open environment while lifting praise to God through song.

We strongly believe that music has the power to speak to the souls of people who walk through our doors. It is our vision to unify all persons through the music that we offer.

We are concerned with social justice issues and seek to make a difference in society. We make sure that the theology in our music, clearly-stated or interpreted, reflects our view on what it means to be human beings who foster an environment of love and acceptance instead of hate and exclusion. We are a family: We pray, laugh, cry, and help each other as fellow human beings created by a loving God.

CHANCEL CHOIR

This talented group of singers enhances Sanctuary worship services with their anthems and special choral presentations. Rehearsals are held on Wednesdays from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. Chancel Choir is open to all in the church who are willing to share their voices in worship. Childcare is available.

CELEBRATION RINGERS

Handbell ensemble is open to adults and older youth with ringing experience. Rehearsals are held on Sunday afternoons, 3:30 to 4:40pm. Our Schulmerich Bells have recently been completely refurbished – Wow, do they ring nicely!

SHALOM BELLS PLUS

This bell choir is open to youth grade 6 to 12 and adults who like to ring. It’s a good place to learn ringing techniques. Rehearsals are held on Sundays from 4:45pm to 5:30pm.

ORCHESTRA & BRASS

These ensembles are open to all instrumentalists (winds, strings, percussion) with at least four years of experience on their instruments. Rehearsals are held as needed, with participation in worship twice per year.

CHILDREN'S MUSIC

As part of Wonderful Wednesdays, Children’s Music is coupled with Children's Ministries to have fun by: Gathering together with food, breaking out into age-appropriate small groups for music and various activities, and coming back together to close out the evening. We look forward to our Christmas Pageant and Spring Musical!
