Thursday: choked up
We all get “choked up” about something. This is our body-mind-spirits letting us know that we’re connected and caring. Researchers have shown that empathy is an essential part of living out a vital humanity.
Refection: What moves you in this world?
Yesterday during the Ash Wednesday service at Morningstar, I was choked up. I experienced empathy in two ways. As we participated in the lovely rituals Pastors Kent and Kim lead us in, I felt a connection with each person there, leaving a regret, asking for hope, making a commitment. But in a great way, I was overcome with a sense that God has empathy for me, and for each of us. For the burdens we carry each day and for the joys we experience when we let them through.
My sister is in the hospital. She took some pain medication and her kidneys are not processing it. I am choked up because I cannot talk to her right now.
