We’re concluding our series on REST (Renewal, Energize, Sabbath) and I’ll be focusing on Time this weekend. What a precious resource this is. We’ve each been given 24-hours every day. Some days this may feel like not enough time, while on other days, it may feel like time drags on and on. After deliberately reflecting on his use of time, one author noted that his “relationship with time was out of balance.”

Those words have stayed with me as I prepare for this weekend. Is our relationship with time out of balance? What may need to be adjusted to be more in tune with the rhythm of time that God created us for? Our scripture will be Ecclesiastes 3 and some New Testament scriptures that teach us about the 2 types of time that we read about in the Bible:

Chronos time:     Acts 14:28 & Matthew 2:7

Kairos time:        Mark 1:15 & Ephesians 5:15-16

One of the interesting things about this theme is the number of songs that focus on time. I wasn’t familiar with the one below until a church member pointed it out to me. But it has something to say about our theme and invites us to say a prayer for everyone impacted by Hurricane Florence. I invite you to read the words or listen to it.

Have a good weekend and look forward to seeing you in worship.

**You’re invited to stop by the School Street Food Pantry after worship on Saturday evening or anytime on Sunday morning. We’ll have a blessing of the pantry in worship and then be open for the students next Friday, September 21st.

Written by Jimmy Buffett and Matt Betton, “Breathe In, Breathe Out, Move On” was included on his 2006 album Take the Weather With You as a tribute to victims of Hurricane Katrina. That made it a natural fit as a show closer for the November fundraiser in Tallahassee, held to benefit victims of hurricanes that struck communities in Florida, Puerto Rico, and elsewhere along the Gulf Coast in 2017. “This is for all of us right now. That’s how you get through any difficulty in life,” Buffett tells the crowd of the song’s mantra at the beginning of the video.

“Breathe In, Breathe Out, Move On”

I bought a cheap watch from a crazy man

Floating down canal

It doesn’t use numbers or moving hands

It always just says now

Now you may be thinking that I was had

But this watch is never wrong

And If I have trouble the warranty said

Breathe In, Breathe Out, Move On

And it rained, It was nothing really new

And it blew, we’ve seen all that before

And it poured, the Earth began to strain

Pontchartrain leaking through the door, tides at war

If a hurricane doesn’t leave you dead

It will make you strong

Don’t try to explain it just nod your head

Breathe In, Breathe Out, Move On

[Guitar Solo]

And it rained, It was nothing really new

And it blew, seen all that before

And it poured, the Earth began to strain

Pontchartrain buried the 9th Ward to the 2nd floor

According to my watch the time is now

Past is dead and gone

Don’t try to shake it just nod your head

Breathe In, Breathe Out, Move On

Don’t try to explain it just bow your head

Breathe In, Breathe Out, Move On
