At the start of a New Year, we often take stock in our lives and reflect on who and what we want to be in the coming year. It’s a good time to make changes. It’s a good time to make sure that the way we are living our lives and spending our time is in line with our values and commitments.
Our scripture (Mark 1:14-20) for worship this weekend re-tells the story of the call of the first disciples. Jesus called these first 4 disciples from their work as fisherman. And, not only that, he invited them to this life of discipleship on the heels of the arrest of John the Baptist. (Start at the beginning of Mark 1). I would imagine that the disciples would have heard about John’s arrest. So their “yes” to Jesus is even a bit more remarkable.
They said “yes” to the very thing that got John the Baptist arrested. They said “yes” to being a disciple even though it wasn’t going to be simple and easy.
As we start this New Year, our worship will focus on what it means to be a disciple of Christ, to say yes to the invitation to follow.
Hope your week is going well! See you in worship!
