August 1 @ 5pm or August 2 @ 9:30am

Several from the congregation completed a Bible Study in June on the ministry of Paul. These early days in the Church were a time when the Gospel message spread exponentially. It can be a bit surprising that this new, young Church movement was facing a lot of resistance and an uncertain future, and yet still growing.

So what helped them to move forward and flourish? I’m sure there are many answers to that question, but my focus this weekend in worship will be on the strength of the relationships. I believe that knowing others well, sharing life with them, and caring for them in the good and bad times, made it possible for the disciples to move forward into an unknown world.

Margaret Wheatley, in the article “When Change is Out of Control”, wrote this: “It is possible to prepare for the future without knowing what it will be. The primary way to prepare for the unknown is to attend to the quality of our relationships, to how well we know and trust one another.” In Acts 2:43-47, we read of an example of this as the disciples, surrounded by uncertainty, continued to gather together, caring for those in need and worshipping God.  My hope is that we’ll continue to be creative in finding ways to tend to our relationships because it’s these relationships that will help us navigate the path ahead.

Look forward to worshipping with you this weekend.
