This weekend we kick off the season of Advent. Advent means “arrival” or “coming.” Advent begins 4 weeks before Christmas.
Centuries ago, our ancestors discovered that we need a season to prepare and anticipate, if we are going to realize the deep meanings of Christmas.
How will you prepare during this season?
What do you anticipate?
What gifts is God wanting to give you this season? What is necessary for you to receive these gifts?
To help us receive what God is offering, we will explore these themes over the next four weeks.
Nov. 30/Dec. 1 Be Brave Like Mary
Dec 7/8 Kind Like Joseph
Dec. 14/15 Daring Like the Shepherds
Dec. 21/22 Generous Like the Wise Ones
You can help decorate the church this Sunday at 4:00 p.m. During the next four weeks there will be special music from our children and adult choirs. There will be Christmas Caroling. Candle Light Carols. Longest Night services. And of course, special services on Christmas Eve.
How will you spend your time this season?
Our Scripture focus for this week will be Luke 1:26-38.
As you reflect on this story of Mary, what feelings do you think you might have at different parts of that story if you were in Mary’s shoes?
In a world where there are many things that we fear, this week, Week One of Advent, we will talk about what gave Mary the courage to love and to be open to God.
Mary has some important lessons to teach us.
I look forward to worshipping with you this weekend!
