Faith Takes Time
Last Sunday at the 11:00 service, we celebrated as 17 of our youth were baptized or confirmed their baptismal vows. During this past year, the confirmands have met weekly. They also met regularly with a Friend in Faith, a mentor with whom they could share their questions and their faith journey. While this service was definitely one of celebration, we weren’t simply marking the end of our class. We were honoring the new beginnings that come with a commitment to faith.
One point that the confirmands likely grew tired of hearing me say was that the faith they have now (hopefully) won’t be the faith they have in 5 or 10 years. We often talked about how faith grows and matures, just as we grow and mature. Sometimes people have the idea that, if they question their faith or doubt God, then they aren’t really believers. But the questions and doubts can lead to a stronger sense of what we believe!
This weekend in worship, we’ll look at Thomas (John 20:19-31) and the path of his faith. During the 9:30 service, the preschoolers will sing a Mother’s Day song.
Looking forward to worshiping with you this weekend!
