Sunday, Dec 30   10:00am Worship (No Sunday School)

I’ll admit that when I first heard the story of the boy Jesus being left in Jerusalem (Luke 2:41-52), my young brain wondered if God had chosen the best parents for Jesus. Were Mary and Joseph slacker parents who couldn’t keep track of their children?

However, as I grew older, and especially after becoming a parent of 3 small children, I gained new respect for the difficulty of not losing children. Now, working with youth and traveling in large groups, I tend to obsessively count people each time we leave a rest stop. This scene from the movie Home Alone shows how I imagine Mary may have been feeling when she realized her son was not with the group.

Reading this story today, I wonder if we are sometimes like Mary and Joseph. We think we have Jesus with us as we travel through life, only to discover he isn’t where we thought he was. What do we do with the times WE lose Jesus? This is one of the questions we will ponder this weekend in worship.

Looking forward to worshiping with you this final weekend of 2018!
