How are your preparations going for Christmas? Specifically, how are you and your loved ones getting prepared spiritually to fully experience this Christmas season?
I am looking forward to the Chancel Choir Christmas Cantata. This is what Janna wrote about it.
The Coming of Christ, Saturday, Dec. 15, 5pm and Sunday, Dec. 16, 9:30am.
Sacred music a scandal? At times, it may be perceived as such. The Coming of Christ by Gustav Holst, premiering in 1927, was received by ears, minds, and hearts that were closed to the messages of justice and inclusion in this musical drama. Scandalous? Perhaps. Or, maybe The Coming of Christ can broaden our perspectives, deepen our faith, and open our hearts to Christ’s indwelling. Come be a part of this “scandalous” story, presented by your Chancel Choir and actors.
If you cannot imagine getting through the weekend without a sermon, not to fear. At the 11:00 a.m. service, I will be reflecting on this question: “What does it mean to say that Jesus is the Prince of Peace?” This comes not only from Handel’s Messiah but originally from Isaiah 9. In Isaiah’s prophecy about the coming Messiah, the prophet says:
“For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us;
And the government will rest on His shoulders;
And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Eternal Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6).
How does the coming of Christ this Christmas lead to peace in our broken and violent world? How does Christ lead to peace in our hearts?
Is it possible that we have missed God’s radical plan through Jesus to turn the world upside down and bring peace?
All three worship services this week are designed to help us get into the deeper meanings of Christmas.
I look forward to worshipping with you!
CHRISTMAS EVE! We are so excited about Christmas Eve we can hardly wait. We will have special services at 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Many neighbors, coworkers, friends and family members will be thinking about attending a Christmas Eve service. Why not help them out by giving them a personal invitation to our church? We will have invitation cards at the church this weekend that you can hand out (or leave on public bulletin boards or in restaurants).
