Earlier this summer, junior high youth went to serve in Madison, Wisconsin, and senior high youth went to serve in Kansas City, Missouri. In each trip, we were able to see God working in other communities and we were able to be a small part of that work.
Jr. high youth worked with Next Step Ministries (“Where short-term mission trips collide with long-term community development”). Our mornings started with breakfast and devotion time. During the week, we served at a school, a food pantry garden, a pregnancy resource center, and a food pantry. In the evenings, we joined with other churches for a worship service.
Sr. high youth had a couple of days serving in Kansas City before we attended Youth 2019. We assisted with a weekly meal that served more than 600 people living in poverty. We also gleaned blackberries, and repackaged frozen chicken at a food bank. At Youth 2019, we attended workshops, participated in small groups, and worshiped with 3000 United Methodist youth. Our theme for the conference was Love Well (based on Romans 12:9-10).
This weekend in worship, you will have the opportunity to hear directly from youth who attended these trips. They will share where they saw God at work, and what the trips meant to them.
Normal First is home to some incredible youth! I encourage you to come hear their reflections on their time serving other communities this summer.
Looking forward to worshiping with you this weekend!
