WORSHIP THIS WEEKEND

Every so often, someone sends around the internet a list of actual signs that lend themselves to being misunderstood. I think I enjoy these because they seem like things I might, write without realizing what I was really saying. Here are a few I saw recently:

On a bathroom door:

TOILET OUT OF ORDER. PLEASE USE FLOOR BELOW.

In a Laundromat:

AUTOMATIC WASHING MACHINES: PLEASE REMOVE YOUR CLOTHES WHEN THE LIGHT GOES OUT.

In an office:

WOULD THE PERSON WHO TOOK THE STEP LADDER YESTERDAY PLEASE BRING IT BACK OR FURTHER STEPS WILL BE TAKEN.

Spotted in a safari park:

ELEPHANTS- PLEASE STAY IN YOUR CAR.

Newspaper Headlines:

Kids Make Nutritious Snacks

Hospitals are Sued by 7 Foot Doctors

Red Tape Holds Up New Bridges

Sometimes you have to shake your head and read something a second time. Sometimes in life you think you understand, but then you realize you did not understand what was really going on.

Palm Sunday may be one of those times. Perhaps the first pilgrims welcoming Jesus into Jerusalem thought they understood what was happening. But did they really? Most of us feel a certain familiarity with Palm Sunday, but do we really understand? Do we understand what Jesus is all about as he enters on Palm Sunday? Is it worth another look? What does it mean for us to follow Jesus as he journeys through the events we now call Holy Week? Are we following Jesus and the “Jesus way” as we go through Holy Week this year? Are we letting Jesus guide us through this Novel Corona Pandemic and the other challenges of our lives?

On Sunday we will look at Mark 11:1-11 and take a deeper look at the Palm Sunday story. In the sermon time I will talk about two different parades that were entering Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, and how those two processions were on a collision course. My hope is that as we worship, you will hear Jesus calling you to join God’s Kingdom and follow the way that leads to life.

I look forward to worshiping with you this weekend!
