Building a home & our community
What is the Beloved Community? Marking the 50th anniversaries of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s tragic death and the passage of the Fair Housing Act, Habitat for Humanity is engaging nationwide in the Beloved Community initiative throughout the year. Building on King’s vision, the Beloved Community allows access, equality and opportunity for all. The Beloved Community is fair, just and built on the love of God operating in the human heart.
Bloomington is joining Habitat communities in Atlanta; Austin; Charlotte, NC; Chicago; Denver; Los Angeles; Memphis.; Minneapolis/St. Paul; New York City; Oakland, CA; Portland, OR.; and Raleigh, NC who have already committed to undertaking Beloved Community projects. More are expected to be announced throughout the year.
As a community of faith, we are in partnership with other Methodist churches and the McLean County Habitat for Humanity program, building quality housing for those who need help. We believe that when we bring together our skills, financial support and our dedication to one another, we will change the world around us.
We are always looking for more people to volunteer their time, finances and individual support to the families and projects that go along with making this kind of change in our community.
We do need to have people sign up before coming to the wall build.
