MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID TRAINING

NORMAL FIRST, SAT, APRIL 13, 8:30 to 5:00PM

Just as CPR helps you assist an individual having a heart attack, Mental Health First Aid helps you assist a friend or acquaintance experiencing a mental health or substance use-related crisis.

In the Mental Health First Aid course, taught by certified trainers, you learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns, strategies for how to help someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations, and where to turn for help. Its purpose is not to make one a counselor or psychotherapist. Rather it is designed to help the lay person notice and respond to those who have need.

During the course these topics are discussed:

Depression and mood disorders

Anxiety disorders

Trauma

Psychosis

Substance Use disorders

Mental Health First Aid gives you the opportunity to practice through role plays scenarios and activities, thereby giving you the skills you need.
